The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has again ignored the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (ARFFN) in another training programme for clearing agents slated for September.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdulahi had over the weekend announced that the service would commence training programme for members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) at the service training college at Ikeja.
Dikko said, “In line with our collaboration agenda and the request made by ANLCA I have given approval for training programmes on modern Customs operations to be extended to Customs agents in order to bring them at par with Customs Officers. The first batch of the training will commence this month at out training college here in Lagos.”
The Comptroller-General however did not mention whether the training would be extended to NAGAFF AND AREFFN.
Dikko also said the service had within the past five years trained over 15,000 officers in modern customs operations across the world.
The CG said the training for the officers was in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration’s six-point agenda.
He said, “In the past five years, we have recorded tremendous progress in implementation of our six-point agenda.
“Prominent among this is Capacity building, which we have trained over 15, 000 Customs Officers in the core area of customs operation such as tariff classification, valuation, enforcement and e- Customs.”
