Freight forwarders and truck owners operating at the nation’s seaport have suspended the withdrawal of service embarked upon over the dilapidated roads leading to the nation’s seaports.

A statement issued at the end of a meeting of the stakeholders and jointly signed by the representatives of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and National Association of Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) yesterday said the decision to suspend the strike was in deference to pleas by the government to allow it address issues which necessitated the withdrawal of service.

“As patriotic Nigerians, the associations agreed that the economy should not be unduly further distressed,” the statement said.

They however gave the government another 21-day ultimatum to rectify all the issues in contention so as to avert another round of withdrawal of service.

The associations commended the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Hassan Bello and Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman for their effort at repositioning the total logistics supply chain.

The associations also commended their members for their support during the exercise and urged them to remain calm promising to always protect their interests.
