General Manager Western Ports of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Chief Michael Ajayi has urged jetty operators at the Tin can Island Port Complex (TCIPC), Lagos to support in concrete terms the federal government’s efforts to solve the perennial Apapa gridlock.
Ajayi appealed to the jetty operators to put in place enduring and lasting measures within their operational areas to ensure smooth traffic flow along the Apapa -Oshodi expressway.
Speaking while exchanging views with some jetty operators during a familiarization tour of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal [KLT] on Thursday, he reiterated that it was necessary for the jetty operators to support government’s efforts “because it would be to their advantage to have a permanent solution to the (traffic) problem”, considering the effects on their operations.
Ajayi toured MRS, Ibru Atlantic Shrimpers, Royal Salt and LADOL jetties and the new trailer park opposite TCIPC.
In all the places visited, the Western Ports General Manager who inspected their facilities, seized the opportunity of the tour to impress on the operators to place premium on safety standards in their daily operations.
At the MRS, he enjoined the management to assist in clearing the trucks along the inner route leading to the Tin Can Port main gate. He also tasked the jetty operator on the repair of some portions of the road leading to the entrance of the facility.
Jibril Otunba of the MRS who conducted Ajayi round the facility assured that the company would support government’s efforts to find a permanent solution to the traffic congestion in the area.
Also, at the Ibru Jetty, the Western Port General Manager repeated his appeal to the operators of the jetty to support efforts aimed at solving the traffic problem along the Apapa corridor.
Vice Chairman of Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oscar Ibru assured that the company would support measures aimed at finding lasting solution to the Apapa gridlock.
Chief Ajayi was accompanied on the tour by the Port Manager TCIPC, Mr Babatunde Longe and some key officers from the headquarters of the Western Ports and Tin Can Island Port.
