Determined to check irregularities in the release of consignments at the ports, following the recent alleged release of a container, which content was registered as toys but was discovered to be carrying contraband wine at the Tin-Can Island Port Area Command, the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as again re-jigged the workforce.
In the latest round of personnel shake-up, a total of 665 have been redeployed.
The circular to that effect came last Wednesday, barely a month after the Customs Management reshuffled about 20 Comptrollers.
The latest redeployment, SHIPS & PORTS DAILY gathered, affected all heads of Examination Units, as well as a number of other officers serving at the various terminals under the Customs Zone ‘A’ from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) down to Customs Assistant.
Affected were 80 of the personnel formerly serving at the Apapa Area 1 Command, and 261 from the Tin-Can Island Port Area Command.
Other formations affected were Port and Terminal Multi Service Limited (PTML) Area Command, with 82 personnel, while Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command recorded 124, and 39 from Lilypond Area Command.
Also affected were 79 from Customs Headquarters, Abuja.
