Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex Apapa, Mallam Nasir Anas Mohammed has been elevated to the rank of General Manager and transferred to head the Abuja Liaison Office of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
Usually authoritative sources at the Public Affairs unit of NPA informed SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that Mohammed is expected to resume at his new duty post this week.
An alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria where he bagged B.Sc Political Science in 1983 and the University of Jos where he bagged M.Sc International Relations in 1990; Mohammed joined the Nigerian Ports Authority in 2001. He has worked in various capacities and served in several committees at NPA including as Assistant General Manager Administration, Head of the Servicom unit and as Port Manager of the LPC, Apapa.
He was also a pioneer member of the Port Industry Anticorruption Standing Committee (PIACSC).
Since January 2013 when he assumed the leadership of the LPC, he has made some bold initiatives to ensure efficient service delivery at the port.
“He instituted discipline and a service culture at the port. The staff will remember him as a hardworking administration who paid attention to details and who ensured prudent utilization of resources. He is a service-oriented person and he always puts us on our toes to ensure that port users get value for their money,” a staff at the port who did not want her name in print told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.
Mohammed has also been credited with success in the areas of ridding the nation’s premiere port of touting and working with security agencies to ban trucks that are rickety and not roadworthy from the port. In October 2014, he was conferred with the “Award of Patronship” by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Western Ports Authority Police Command.
Some stakeholders have already expressed their views about the outgoing LPC Port Manager.
“He has been a great asset to NPA and we will miss him greatly,” said Mark Walsh, General Manager of ENL Consortium – operators of Terminals C and D at the LPC.
“We recall with nostalgia your amicable disposition as Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex and your simple carriage of your duty. We cherish your sense of responsibility and sound judgment,” Legal Adviser to ENL Consortium, Barrister Uzamot Boye stated in a letter to the outgoing Port Manager.
Captain Mohammed Bashir, Managing Director of Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited – operators of Terminals A and B at the port – said, “It has been wonderful to note there are Civil Servants like him who take ownership of their domain of influence. I am certain he is being prepared for higher responsibilities. He will be sorely missed in Lagos.”
Chairman, Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Chief Remi Ogungbemi; Chairman Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Val Usifoh and Apapa Chapter Chairman, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Fred Ajuzie all expressed joy at Mohammed’s promotion and wished him well in his new assignment.
