ANLCA demand five percent commission on Customs revenue

National President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Prince Olayiwola Shittu has again asked the Federal Government to approve payment of five percent commission on revenues accruing into the national treasury through the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Speaking at the association secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday, Shittu said the demand from government was to enable customs agents perform better as revenue generators.

“We are the revenue generators for government, last year we made about N800billion for Customs but if government gives customs brokers not less than five percent of revenue generated as an incentives, we can get up to N2trillion annually.

“Government uses contractors, consultants and they pay them so much but we are not asking for so much but for just five percent of money generated by each customs licensed company,” he said

Also speaking, former Chairman, Tin Can Island Port chapter of the association, Dr. Kayode Farinto said that the 5 percent which will serve as an incentives for agents would motivate them to generate more money for the government.

“We should also be given five percent of the money generated into the coffers of the Nigerian Customs Service because that will serve as a morale booster for us. That will also help government generate a lot of revenue. Then, we won’t allow importers who may want to cut corners do that, we will encourage them to do genuine declaration,” he said.
