The CEPC, according to the promoters, focuses on solving community challenges.
The effort by ANLCA was the outcome of the visit of the CEPC Executive Secretary, Dr. Abia Nzelu, to the ANLCA National President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, at the ANLCA National Secretariat, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, yesterday.
Briefing the ANLCA National President on the NGO’s immediate focus, which is on cancer prevention at the grassroots, Nzelu lamented that, in Nigeria, four out of five cancer patients die.
She attributed this to ignorance and non-early detection of the disease.
According to her, ignorance of the fact that cancer is preventable, coupled with not knowing where to go for early detection and treatment, were responsible for the high mortality rate among cancer patients.
Nzelu listed the different types of cancer to include prostrate, throat, breast, eye, and cervical among others.
She said that early detection, access to good facility and care could save a lot of lives or, at least, have the chance of living longer.
The CEPC Executive Secretary said that her visit to the ANLCA National President was to brief him on the activities of the NGO and solicit for support for its activities.
According to her, the organisation is aiming to have 37 mobile cancer-screening centres spread across the Federation, each costing N95 million.
She explained that the mobile screening centres would equally handle Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome/Human Immuno Virus (AIDS/HIV) and other related diseases.
Nzelu appealed to ANLCA and other corporate bodies to partner with the CECP in the fight against cancer, noting that the platform for donations would be communicated to ANLCA in due course.
