The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has said that training of its members is one of its cardinal points of putting the association on the world map.
National President of the association, Prince Olayiwola Shittu disclosed this in Lagos last week.
He said, “The nature of operation of ANLCA must change to meet international standard. It is a deliberate thing for us and I can tell you that our people go for training and if not for this election now, we are preparing to go to South Africa and also in October we are going to jeddah and that same year, we will be in America.
“All this travelling is to train our members because what you learn cannot be taken away from you and no matter how knowledgeable you are, you still need to train yourself.”
Shittu stated that the association had created a new face for licensed Customs agents from the old way of “dirty and nylon bag agents” to a professionalized industry.
“I can tell you that we have about 15 PhD holders in ANLCA who are doing this job. We can no more be seen as touts or as disgruntled element, we have professionalized the industry,” Shittu stated.
He stated further that his members enjoy the same type training as customs officers.
