The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has charged the Council for the Regulation of Nigeria (CRFFN) to deregister freight forwarding associations whose executives were not elected into office.
National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, made this demand yesterday, when the Council’s Director, Regulation and Enforcement Department, Basil Oparah and his team of CRFFN enforcement officials paid a visit to the ANLCA National Secretariat.
He said that the Council’s enforcement exercise can only fulfill its mandate if it starts with deregistering member associations who he said did not meet up with the Council’s requirements but were registered afterall.
“Since the condition of elected officers is one of the criteria for an association to exist, we call on you to deregister associations that don’t have elected officials. Even one of the requirements is enough for an association not to be registered. If people have been registered by default now that you are going round you have no excuse to still keep them there because if we can make efforts as an association to meet with your requirements then I see no reason why we should sit at the same table with people who have never met the requirements,” he said.
Shittu assured CRFFN of ANLCA’s absolute cooperation by strictly complying to the requirements of its enforcement unit but reiterated that “the enforcement exercise must be done in the open and those who did not meet the standard as an association should be deregistered”.
“You have our absolute support but our absolute confidence is predicated on an open operations when things are done in open it is easier to get the confidence of people” he said.
He also urged the enforcement officers to familiarise with the system of operations at the port else they’ll be working in vain.
