Apapa Port Mgt introduces Weekly Keep-fit Exercise

Determined to translate into concrete terms the truism that “a healthy workforce is a healthy business”, the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) Management has introduced and commenced weekly keep-fit exercise and monthly keep-fit road walk, respectively.
The Port Manager, LPC, Mr. Nasir Anas Mohammed, told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that the weekly keep-fit exercise “is scheduled for every Thursday, from 8.00 – 9.00am, for our officers and staff at the open space above the car park and includes various exercises and aerobic activities.”
The objective, according to Mohammed, includes to promote team spirit, and to sustain a more healthy and alert workforce for improved service delivery.
On the monthly keep-fit road walk, the LPC boss said: “This is scheduled for the third Saturday of each month at 8.00am. It includes a road-walk along the newly-renovated 1.6-kilometre road in the port, and other fitness activities. It is for the participation of management and staff members of businesses/organisations operating in our port. The objective includes to:
• Promote a healthy and physically-fit port community;
• Enhance overall port productivity; and
• Improve friendship and networking among our port community.
“The activities are facilitated by professional trainers and observed under the required conditions.”
The monthly keep-fit road walk kicked off on June 22, 2013, with take-off point from the Round-about by the LPC Administrative Building/Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL) facility.
Mohammed urged interested participants to “come properly kitted in sportswear as most suitable”, noting that “required safety and medical measures would also be observed.”
He added: “Kindly, therefore, encourage all concerned to participate as it would further improve comradeship and networking among our port community.
“Remember ‘a healthy workforce is healthy business’.”
