Baltic Dry Index closes week 24 points under 1986 lowest level

The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) ended last week at 24 points below its 1986 low, closing at 530 points.

Having hit an all time low of 553 points on Wednesday the BDI fell sharply on Thursday and Friday to end at 530 points.

With the Lunar New Year holidays closing most Asian markets from mid-next week, a traditionally weak time for dry bulk shipping, further falls could be on the cards in the coming days.
