Chairman, Association of Bonded Terminal Operators of Nigeria (ABTON), Isreal Ubanga, has frowned against the practice of examining export containers at the port by officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Ubanga, who spoke with journalists in Lagos on Thursday, said examination of export cargoes should rather be done at offdock facilities for security reasons.
He said, “The examination of such containers should be done offdock. The way forward is to bring back the containers when it is examined by the customs and all the agencies direct to the shipping company to ship back for export, and not to examine them inside the port, it is very dangerous to all of us.”
