Collaboration among the enforcement agencies in border security controls has yielded tremendous success particularly in addressing maritime related criminal activities. Malaysia Royal Customs and Excise Department, Director-General Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad has said.
Khazali noted that the collaboration had reduced cost economically, enhanced risk management competency, reduced transportation cost and waiting time, enhanced service delivery and resulted in savings on the use of resources and infrastructure.
He however said the cooperation among the government agencies must be in an inclusive manner to reduce duplication and overlapping of power.
Khazali said the border controls were jointly carried out by Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Police, Immigration, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Malaysian Quarantine Inspection Services (Maqis), Anti-Smuggling Unit, Home Ministry, Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) and port authorities.
He added,”In order to coordinate the border management controls, we have implemented world class standard initiatives without compromising the stakeholders’ interest.” Khazali said these include establishing close cooperation with port operators through Mega Port Initiatives, cooperation with United States’ customs through Container Security Initiative, cooperation with Indonesian customs and with business establishments through private Customs negotiation panel.
