A breaking wave is said to have injured four Filipino crewmen on a bulk carrier off Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on August 6.

The vessel alerted the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Port Elizabeth duty crew, who rendezvoused with the bulker aboard sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft.

On the arrival of the sea rescue craft, the injured seafarers were treated by an NSRI medical team as the ship proceeded to enter Port Elizabeth.

According to NSRI, injuries sustained by the four men included fractures to the jaw, hip, clavicle and femur, in addition to bruises.

The patients were stabilized, and on entering Port Elizabeth, transported to hospitals for further treatment by emergency medical services ambulances in serious but stable conditions.
