President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed an economics lecturer at the Lagos Business School (LBS), Prof. Doyin Salami, to head the newly formed Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to replace the Economic Management Team (EMT) headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Dr. Mohammed Sagagi was appointed to serve as the EAC Vice Chairman while Prof. Ode Ojowu, Dr. Shehu Yahaya, Dr. Iyabo Masha, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Bismark Rewane will serve as members.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Development Policy, Dr. Mohammed Adaya Salisu was appointed to serve as the Secretary of the Council.

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said the new EAC will report directly to the President.

Adesina said the council will advise the President on economic policy matters including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.

“The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the President.

“The Chairman may, however, request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises,” he said.
