President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday condoled with the Chanchangi family on the death of Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi, business mogul and one of Nigeria’s outstanding philanthropists.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement, said Buhari also commiserated with the government and people of the deceased’s home State, Taraba, and that of Kaduna, where he lived.

The president described Chanchangi as a notable entrepreneur who devoted his wealth to the advancement of the welfare of others instead of pursuing conspicuous consumption in a society overwhelmed by poverty.

‘The President joins friends , well wishers and the business community in mourning the great man who passed on at a time humanity needed his compassionate services most.

“The President pays tribute to Chanchangi’s selfless commitment to humanitarian causes, demonstrated in his offering succour to those in need, sponsoring community enlightenment programmes and uplifting of people’s spiritual well-being.

“President Buhari believes that Alhaji Chanchangi, who devoted his life to the service of God and humanity will be long remembered for his resourcefulness, discipline and passion for hardwork,” Shehu stated.

He also quoted the president as praying that Almighty Allah bless Chanchangi’s soul and reward his good deeds with Aljanna.

Chanchangi died along Kaduna-Abuja Expressway yesterday morning while being taken to the National Hospital Abuja.

He had reportedly battled with a protracted illness.

“He died along the road while we were rushing him to a hospital in Abuja, after a protracted illness,” the source said.

He was buried at 2pm yesterday at the Bashama Road Cemetery according to Islamic rites.

He is survived by three wives and about 33 children, among whom is Rufai Chanchangi, a member of the Federal House of Representatives.
