Bulk carrier aground off Philippines

M/V Chang Hang Feng Hai, a Chinese-flagged vessel loaded with 55,000 tons of lateritic nickel ore ran aground off Cagdianao, Surigao del Norte in Mindanao, Philippines on Saturday, according to Philippine Coast Guard.

After the incident was confirmed, the coast guard dispatched a team to the area in order to provide necessary assistance and conduct assessment.

The investigation revealed that the 56,826 dwt ship was carrying Cagdianao Mining Corporation’s (CMC) cargo and was bound for China.

While navigating, the 2011-built ship accidentally ran aground in the shallow waters and damaged the water ballast tank two at the port side.

None of the vessel’s 22 crew members suffered any injuries in the accident, the coast guard said.

The vessel’s AIS data shows it is still in Surigao area.
