Busan Port Authority (BPA) has appointed a new boss with effect from 31 July to replace the outgoing Lim Ki-tack, who will assume his new posting as the secretary-general of IMO in 2016.
Woo Ye-jong, who started his career in the Korea Maritime and Port Administration in 1985, has been appointed as the new ceo of BPA, according to an announcement by South Korea’s ministry of oceans and fisheries (MOF).
The ministry described Woo as having a good understanding of the current issues facing Busan port, and is well qualified to lead the port with its continuing expansion.
On BPA’s website, the newly appointed ceo Woo said the port authority “promises to make continuous and concerted efforts for further development of its port facilities and services to guarantee swift, precise and safe port services to customers.”
At present, Busan port is enlarging its berths to accommodate mega-sized containerships of up to 22,000 teu, and attracting more transhipment cargoes to boost growth.
Woo’s predecessor Lim is due to move to London to shoulder the heavy responsibility that will come when he takes over the top job at IMO at the start of 2016.
Lim beat five rivals from Denmark, Russia, Cyprus, Kenya, and the Philippines in a vote in June.
