Car dealer docked for N8.6m theft

A car dealer, Wasiu Ayandare, who allegedly obtained four vehicles worth N8.6 million under false pretence, was on Thursday arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Ayandare, 43, was brought by the Zone II Police Headquarters, Lagos, before Mrs. O. O. Oshin on a three-count charge of stealing and fraud.

Prosecuting police officer, Insp. Steven Molo, alleged that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February 2017 at Exotic Auto and Real Estate Limited, Plot 3010, Rafiu Babatunde Street, Amuwo-Odofin, Festac Town, Lagos.

He said Ayandare fraudulently obtained four fairly used vehicles popularly called Tokunbo from the complainant, Mr. Jerry Eboh, under the guise of selling them
Molo said the defendant sold the vehicles but converted the said money to his personal use.

The court heard that the vehicles included a Honda Accord Coupe 2005 model, two Acura 3.2TL 2003, 2000 model and an Odyssey 2003 model, all valued at N8 million.
Molo also said the defendant stole an unregistered Honda Acura Legend worth N650,000 belonging to the same complainant.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 287(9), (10) and 314(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under same.

Ayansare pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Oshin granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case continues on April 2.
