A 29-year-old car dealer, Ifeanyi Daniel, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N2.16 million to buy a fairly used Lexus ES 350 in Lagos.
Daniel is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaiye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 28, 2019 at about 11 a.m. along Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N2,160,000 through UBA Plc account no 2059822994 from one Stanley Izuchukwu under the pretence that he was going to purchase a fairly used Lexus ES 350 from Indonesia in Asia for him (Izuchukwu) which he (Daniel) knew to be false,” Tedunjaiye said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 314 (1a) and 287 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate F.J Adefioye granted him N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till December 16, 2019 for mention.
