An 88-meter cargo ship collided with a Turkish passenger ferry in the Dardanelles strait last week, causing damage to both vessels.
The Turkish Directorate of Coastal Safety confirms that the collision involved the Cook Island-flagged dry cargo ship Esperanza and the passenger ferry Ezine, occurring just after midnight on April 3. Both vessels were take to nearby harbors for inspections.
Photos show damage to the bow of the cargo ship and port quarter of the ferry. No injuries were reported but several vehicles aboard the ferry were damage in the collision.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Together with the Bosphorus, the Dardanelles forms the Turkish Straits connecting the Black Sea with the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.
