Clearing agent arraigned for obtaining by false pretence

Court

A clearing agent Akujeze Princess was Wednesday arraigned for trial at the Apapa Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N50,000 from one Ezeagba Nonso under the pretence of returning an empty container.

The agent pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.

The prosecuting counsel told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 22, 2016 at Tin Can Island Port by fraudulently collecting the sum of N50,000 from Ezeagba under the pretence of returning an empty container with registration number UACU5699264.

The counsel also said that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by refusing to deliver the 40-feet container.

The alleged offence, according to the prosecution, contravened sections 312, 285 (9B) and 166 (1D) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The case was adjourned till July 11, 2017 for trial.
