Former President, Dockworkers Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, has been elected President-General of the union.

In an election held during the MWUN 4th delegates conference held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, Adeyanju secured a landslide victory against former Deputy President-General, Comrade Dahiru Talle Abubakar. Adeyanju garnered a resounding 132 votes to Abubakar’s 27.

Speaking exclusively with SHIPS & PORTS shortly after the election, Adeyanju dedicated his victory to “all maritime workers across the country”.

“We are here to work for all our members. We will serve them diligently and ensure better welfare for them,” he said.

Adeyanju succeeds Comrade Tony Emmanuel Nted who has served two consecutive terms – a total of eight years – as the MWUN President-General.

Several maritime industry stakeholders have called the new MWUN leader to felicitate with him.
