Chinese container shipping line COSCO has suspended shipping to Israel.
Israeli media, which reported the suspension, did not give details of the suspension although it is not unconnected to attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea Houthi rebels based in Yemen.
The attacks, which have been ongoing for weeks in retaliation against Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza strip, threaten to significantly disrupt the flow of commercial goods through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, an important route for trade between Asia and Western countries.
In December, COSCO-owned container line OOCL announced that due to operational issues, it would stop accepting cargo to and from Israel until further notice.
