COSCO Shipping’s subsidiary Cosco Southern Asphalt Shipping has ordered four 7,500 dwt asphalt carriers from Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Chengxi Shipyard.
The company said that the new ships would serve both short-range routes as well as the company’s long-range international routes.
With these vessels, Cosco plans to enhance its service to Singapore, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and China.
Cosco Southern Asphalt Shipping currently operates a fleet of 11 asphalt carriers.
The company, which specializes in bulk asphalt carriage on international and coastal lines, has two more 13,000 dwt asphalt carriers under construction, scheduled to join the fleet in 2016.
