Court remands man found with Navy uniforms in Apapa

An Apapa Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 38-year-old man, identified as Ngbede Ewa, for allegedly having in his possession Nigerian Navy uniforms and other military outfits in Apapa.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 9, 2019 at White Sand, Ijora, Apapa.

“The defendant impersonated member of the Armed Forces and had in his possession; two pairs of army uniforms, two pairs of Navy uniforms and three pairs of black booth of different sizes which he was giving to unauthorized persons for criminal activities at White Sand area of Ijora,” Inedu said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant not being a member of the Armed Forces wore a military camouflage T-shirt.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 77 (a & b), 80 and 79 (a & b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges bordering on impersonation.

Magistrate M. Owumi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government. 

The defendant was remanded in prison custody pending the fulfillment of his bail condition. 

The magistrate adjourned the case till May 7, 2019 for mention.
