An Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday slammed six hours community service on six stowaways after they pleaded guilty to all the charges against them.

The six stowaways are Olaniyi Oriade (25), Popoola Samuel (24), Monday Okereke (34), Michael Okeke 21, Onos Friday (28) and Ahmed Iliasu (29).

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 24, 2019 at BreakWater Apapa Port.

“The defendants conspired to enter MT NORD SKATE VESSEL with the intention of travelling to Europe without purchasing ticket or being a passenger of a ship,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Upon the guilty plea by all the defendants, Magistrate O.A Erinle sentenced them to N5,000 fine or six hours of community service within the court premises.
