Customs agent drags man to court over N100,000 theft

A 26-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Aluwa, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N100,000 belonging to a customs agent.

Aluwa is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 15, 2018 at about 1pm at Wema Bus Stop, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal the cash sum of N100,000 property of one Stanley Okonkwo,” Inedu said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under section 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till October 19, 2018 for mention.
