The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has destroyed expired seized medicament and other items that were deposited in its government warehouse.
Controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu, disclosed that the expired and hazardous medicament has a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N102 million.
The destruction exercise was carried out in company of the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye and Director Ports Inspection Directorate, Professor Samson Adebayo, who were at the command on a working visit.
Aliyu noted that the destruction exercise was in compliance with the service extant laws were the relevant agencies like NAFDAC, NDLEA and SON were principal witness.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Saidu Abdulahi, on Tuesday said some of the medicament destroyed include: Tramadol capsules and tablets, Codeine, Diazepam tablets, Analgen injection, Medik- 55 pacrcetamol with caffeine, Mosquito coils, Dexamethasone tabs, expired rice, expired fertilizer and expired seasoning among others.
The Controller stated that he will continue to implement government policies of seizing and handing over to relevant agencies dangerous and illicit drugs that are smuggled through the land border.
He warned drug traffickers to keep off from Seme border route as any attempt to smuggle such will be discovered by the eagle eyes of the command’s enforcement team.
