Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dikko Inde Abdulahi, has harped on the need for effective communication for institutions and organizations to achieve set goals and objectives.
Speaking at this year’s International Customs Day celebration held in Abuja yesterday, Dikko said that the Service migration from manual ways of information dissemination to electronic platform has resulted in the establishment of the Nigeria Trade hub portal and the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR), a platform which he said has brought all relevant stakeholders together in the trade chain without human contact.
“The paradigm shift from manual ways of doing business to electronic with increasing need for transparency have continued to raise the quest for smooth quick and transparent communication,” he said.
Represented by Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Finance, Administration and Human Resource Development, John Atteh, Dikko noted that the imperative of effective communication in Customs administration cannot be over emphazied as its core functions of revenue collection, suppression of smuggling and facilitation of trade can only be achieved through collaboration and support from stakeholders.
“Since the coming on board of the present management of the NCS, communication was recognized as an important function of management. It was therefore accorded a place in the six points agenda of this administration for greater activities that will foster mutual understanding between the Service and our stakeholders,” he said.
Dikko therefore charged all Zonal Coordinators, Area Controllers and all units heads to ensure that all channels of communication for internal and external information dissemination are explored and effectively utilized for greater mutual understanding.
As part of event marking the celebration, the NCS unveiled the first edition of its quarterly magazine titled NaijaCustoms as part of effort to further consolidate its existing communication channel.
The event was also used to award excellent in officers who have distinquished themselves through hardwork and dedication.
The theme of this year’s celebration was Communication: sharing information for better cooperation.
