Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos, have seized nine trailer loads of foreign rice, 18,100 liters of petrol, others in the arrest of a Toyota Highlander with an ingenious concealment of suspected bags of foreign parboiled rice at Iju-Ojuore , Ogun State.
The unit has also arrested eleven suspects in connection with the seizures.
Acting Controller of the unit, Deputy Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, while speaking with newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, said his men also intercepted bales of used clothes, cartons of frozen poultry products, pieces of used compressors, used tyres, used vehicles and cartons of frozen fish with a total duty paid value of the seized goods at N872.6 million.
Ejibunu said the unit raked in N71.3 million through conscious and thorough documentary checks, followed by the issuance of demand notices on consignments that were found to have paid lesser amounts than the appropriate Customs duty.
