The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos, has seized 17 vehicles and other contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth N1.2 billion.
The unit has also arrested nine suspects in connection with the seizures and they are currently undergoing court cases.
Acting Controller of the unit, Deputy Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, while speaking with newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, said his men also intercepted thirteen trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, 657 used tyres, 202kg of Indian hemp, premium motor spirit, bales of second-hand clothing, tomato ketchup, motorcycle, GIV soap, donkey hides and skins.
Ejibunu said the unit raked in n115million naira from infractions such as under-valuation, under-payments and wrong-classification from issuance of demand notices to defaulters.
“We are ready to intercept them and frustrate their antics of concealment, illegal route passage, false declaration and under-declaration. In addition, we are also determined to implement all the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, including the various penalties attached to offences while striving to ensure that perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
