In a bid to enhance national security and curb revenue loss, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have commenced an intensive vehicle database integration.
The collaboration was effected during the visit of the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, on Thursday.
Speaking during the visit, Adeniyi emphasized Customs’ renewed commitment towards working together with FRSC in the area of human resource development, information, communication technology, as well as sports.
Adeniyi said that an alliance of existing vehicle information in the National Vehicle Identification Scheme database of the FRSC and Nigeria Customs Service will curb vehicle smuggling, improve revenue generation and enhance national security.
Responding, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, applauded the initiative, stating that data sharing will strengthen the bond between the two agencies and positively impact the fight against vehicle smuggling.
He also said that the collaboration will make the tracking of vehicles without customs duty certificate very easy for FRSC officials at the point of registration, thereby leading to the ease of doing business.
While decrying the dangers of fairly used tyres, Biu sought enhanced enforcement of the ban on the importation of such tyres into the
country.
