The Port and Terminal Multi-service Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said that it generated N33.8 billion in the last six months.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Tajudeen Olanrewaju, announced this yesterday in Lagos.
Olanrewaju said that the amount was N100 million higher than the N33.7 billion generated in the corresponding period in 2012.
The said that the amount would have been higher if a shipping firm, Maersk Line, had not withdrawn its patronage of the command.
“The command was told that Maersk Line now own bigger ships that could only berth at deep seaports,” he said.
He added that, within the last six months, the Command also seized some consignment for various reasons, such as false declaration.
According to him, the seized items include six vehicles, two 20-foot containers of printed wax, two 40-foot containers of plastic wares, gift items, furniture and fireworks.
He said that the clearing of cargoes at the Command had improved, noting that it takes about 12 hours to clear a vehicle.
