The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disclosed that it intercepted wildlife products worth ₦5.93 billion and made 105 narcotics seizures in 2024, showcasing its relentless efforts in tackling illicit trade and enhancing national security.
These achievements were highlighted during the International Customs Day 2025 celebration at the Service’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
Themed “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity,” the event aligned with the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) global agenda and brought together distinguished guests and stakeholders from Nigeria and beyond.
In his keynote address, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, detailed the NCS’s strategic impact on Nigeria’s economy and security over the past year.
He said while the agency collected a record-breaking ₦6.1 trillion in revenue—surpassing its targets by over 20%—its focus on border security yielded equally impressive results.
In addition to narcotics seizures and wildlife interceptions, he said the NCS also tackled money laundering and other forms of illicit trade.
Adeniyi noted that these security interventions were pivotal in curbing criminal activities that could undermine Nigeria’s economic and environmental sustainability.
