The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commended the Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port command, Comptroller Yusuf Bashar for what it described as his “outstanding diligence”. This is sequel to the discovery and handing over of 200 parcels of cocaine imported into the country by Nigerite Nigeria Limited to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The letter signed by Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Dan Ugo, on behalf of the Comptroller General and addressed to the Comptroller reads in parts:
“I am directed to forward a letter of commendation from the Comptroller General of Customs in appreciation of your outstanding diligence in the interception of substance suspected to be cocaine and handover to NDLEA,”
In his response, Comptroller Bashar said the commendation is a call for more diligence, transparency and application of moral standards in the discharge of official functions and promised to sustain the tempo and even improve on existing standards.
He however assured compliant importers and their agents of the support of the Service at all times as necessary steps will be taken to ensure facilitation of their legitimate trade.
