A major drug trafficking attempt has been foiled at Apapa Port, where officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted 347.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis, concealed inside an imported Toyota Sienna.
The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service confirmed the seizure in a statement released on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent Isah Sulaiman.
The discovery came less than a day after the Area Comptroller, Emmanuel Oshoba, was honoured with a World Customs Organisation Certificate of Merit, adding a dramatic edge to an already notable week for the command.
Officials revealed that the drugs were expertly hidden in 13 bags packed inside one of four vehicles in a single import consignment. After careful examination and weighing, ten of the bags were found to contain 25 kilograms each, one held 29 kilograms, while two others weighed 34.5 and 34 kilograms, bringing the total to 347.5 kilograms.
Authorities described the bust as the fourth major joint drug interception at Apapa port in just two months.
Reacting to the operation, Oshoba issued a stern warning to criminal networks attempting to use the port as a gateway for prohibited goods, declaring that such schemes will continue to be uncovered and dismantled. He reaffirmed the commitment of officers to remain alert and determined in protecting public safety and national security.
In line with established procedures, the seized cannabis has been formally handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution of those linked to the shipment.
