Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Training and Staff Development, Onyebuchi Okoli has asked the Customs Area Controller, Western Marine Command (WMC), Yusuf Umar to forward the list of approved marine courses to the headquarters for training of officers.
Okoli disclosed this when top management staff of the NCS embarked on an inspection visit to the command.
She said NCS management would assist in the training of marine officers in expectation of the sea-going vessel, which she said would arrive the country soon.
The training she said would enable the officers man the vessel and curb smuggling activities on the high sea.
Speaking earlier, ACG Tariff and Trade, Grace Adeyemo said the purpose of the visit was to remind the officers of the need to ensure zero tolerance for anti-smuggling activities on the waters.
While describing the Controller as a man of great reputation “known for turning things around for good”, Adeyemo commended the Umar on the recent seizure of seven tons of scrap metals which was said to the first by the command since inception.
She urged the officers to support the command in discharging its responsibilities.
Adeyemo also commended Umar on the in-house training of officers on the use of AK-47 rifles.
