Customs WMC destroys seized poultry products

The Western Marine Command (WMC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said that it intercepted and destroyed a total of 170 cartons of seized contraband imported poultry products with duty paid value (DPV) of N1,105,000. Speaking with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY in his office yesterday, Deputy Comptroller in charge of Administration, Mr. Benjamin Binga, said that the poultry products were allegedly seized based on a tip-off last weekend at Idiroko, Ogun State. Binga said that no arrest was made, as, according to him, the smugglers allegedly jumped inside the water on sighting the WMC operatives. He maintained that while smugglers are adamant in bringing in prohibited items, the WMC will also not relent in clamping down on their nefarious activities. Meanwhile, the WMC said it has also impounded 288 bags of rice and 25 gallons of vegetable oil with DPV over N3million and N167, 500 respectively. The items where intercepted at Badagry, Yekeme and Idiroko last month, according to the WMC.
