Customs WMC records 410 seizures in one week

Still basking in the unprecedented seizures it recorded towards the end of last year, the Western Marine Command (WMC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has again recorded a total of 410 seizures within one week.
The command which monitors activities of smugglers in all waters in the western part of the country including Kebbi and Niger states said in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Okpara, that the seizures have a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.3 million.
Giving a breakdown of the contraband goods intercepted, Okpara said they include 270 cartons of poultry products with DPV of N1.7 million and 140 bags of rice with DPV of N1.6 million.
She explained that the items were intercepted by officers of the command at different locations in Bagadry and Gbaji at the point of being smuggled into the country adding that no arrest was made as the smugglers escaped on sighting the officers.
