Damco has further expanded its presence in Indonesia by opening a new office in the port city of Balikpapan, the centre for logistics operations supporting the development of Kalimantan’s extensive natural resources.
The logistics arm of the AP Moller-Maersk Group will offer supply chain management and freight forwarding services to the raw materials sector on the island, where resources being developed include oil, natural gas (LNG), coal and timber.
The office is Damco’s fifth in Indonesia, the largest economy in south-east Asia, where bases have already been established in Medan, Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya.
“The move is part of a global growth strategy in which Damco’s worldwide footprint will be significantly increased, allowing the company to quickly move to where its customers are growing,” said a company statement.
The expansion in Asia will be led by Thomas Knudsen, previously Asia Pacific Regional CEO for Maersk Line, who has now taken the reins at Damco as Regional Head of its Asia business.
