ECOWAS wants Nigeria to establish commission for small arms

The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) has said that Nigeria remains the only member state of the regional bloc without a functional ‎National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW).

This is as the United Nations Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) revealed that Nigeria recorded the largest terrorist deaths in any country, increasing by over 300 percent in 201.

ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Mrs. Halima Ahmed made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja yesterday at an Experts’ meeting on Improving Cross-Border Sub-regional Cooperation in Small Arms and Light Weapons Control and urged the Nigerian government to put the commission in place like other members of the country.
