Port users and hundreds of motorists accessing Apapa were yesterday stranded in traffic for hours after a truck carrying two 20-foot containers fell off the road at the Area ‘B’police post at barracks bus-stop.
This is coming after motorists accessing the port enjoyed free flow of traffic in and out of the port city for weeks due to the low level of importation inot the country as a result of uncertainly over the forthcoming general elections and the sliding value of the naira.
The fallen truck led to a gridlock on both sides of the road while the traffic also stretched to Liverpool area.
Although no life was lost, the containers on the truck which was coming from the Tin can axis in Apapa fell as they were not properly latched.
Many commuters resorted to walking to get to their destinations.
When SHIPS & PORTS DAILY arrived the scene of the accident in the afternoon, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority ( LASTMA) were seen making frantic efforts to tow the truck.
