FG rice import policy working for us, say local rice farmers

Local Rice farmers in the country have been counting their gains over the increase in the import duty of imported rice by the Federal Government. According to the farmers, the rice revolution has changed their state of life as they have been able to get market for rice they produce locally.
“Initially, I was able to farm only 400 bags of paddy rice but now, with the revolution in the rice sector, we were able to harvest 1,500 bags of paddy rice in the last dry season.
Now, because of the support we are getting, we are looking forward to harvesting 4,000 bags in the coming season with my other Female colleagues,” a farmer based in Jigawa State, Hajiya Talle Adaha, said.
Dr Murtala Gamilu, who hails from Sokoto said with the support the Federal Government is giving to local rice farmers, they are ready to meet with the yearnings of Nigerians on local rice production.
