The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) on Monday said its vessel carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, had discharged in Lagos after two weeks of being stranded on waters.
Last Wednesday, the NLNG said its dedicated LPG vessel had been unable to discharge the product at the Apapa port since December 29, 2016 due to jetty unavailability, resulting in temporary product shortages in the market.
The price of LPG, popularly known as cooking gas, soared to N5,000 per 12.5kg last week from between N3,200 to N4,000 in December.
The General Manager External Relations, NLNG, Kudo Eresia-Eke, said in an emailed statement, “NLNG’s LPG vessel successfully discharged 13,000 tonnes of LPG to Lagos jetty over the weekend.
“The vessel is scheduled to return to NLNG’s facility in Bonny to re-load. NLNG continues its efforts to ensure adequate supply and price stability to the market.”
The NLNG had said last week that the recent delays to vessel discharges at the receiving facilities in Apapa, Lagos which are multi-use terminals with berthing priority accorded to vessels discharging other oil products (petrol, dual purpose kerosene and diesel), had also led to a temporary supply disruption over the last two to three weeks.
It said its board recently approved an increase in the LPG dedicated for supply into the domestic market from 250,000 metric tons to 350,000 metric tons annually.
