Exporters in the country have been advised to make use of humidity absorbing materials to protect their consignments from damage during shipping.
Thierry Letailleur of Sodepac International SA, France gave the advise yesterday at a one day conference held in Lagos.
“Condensation causes humidity within a container which allows condensation to reach relatively high levels and can cause a range of problems such as fungal growth, corrosion stains, stickers coming off and cardboard disintegration.
“When shipping goods by sea, the difference in temperature between day and night causes condensation to occur repeatedly through out the journey.
“Our product ranges from ultra absorbent maritime container humidity regulator made from calcium chloride; desiccants made from natural activated clay, odour neutralizer for container transport and cleaning and ventilated tube containing granules which neutralizes ethylene, acetaldehyne, ethanol and other pollutants,” Letailleur said.
He said the product was designed to find solutions for industrial packaging and maritime shipping professionals.
