Floods wreak havoc in Apapa, other parts of Lagos

It might not yet be Uhuru for long-suffering Lagos residents, as yesterday’s downpour left many parts of the state flooded in its wake.
Like many parts of Nigeria, which were submerged by floods last year, the same fate befell Lagos.
The spectre of last year’s floods haunted Lagos residents, who had to wade through murky waters from overflowing drainage in their vehicles or on foot.

Apapa, home to the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC), was again particularly hit by the floods, which, according to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY checks, heavily impacted adversely on ports operations.
In a particular instance, at the Trinity stretch of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Apapa, a contained-laden truck had fallen into a ditch, which flood waters had concealed, leading to the forceful discharge of the container on the road.
The floods instigated the a return of the near-perennial gridlock, which had somewhat abated in recent weeks.
The negative effects of yesterday’s downpour is expected to linger today, even longer, until the floods retreat; that is if the heavens do not open up too soon.
