Four men docked for traffic robbery

The police on Thursday arraigned four men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly specializing on traffic robbery and having in their possession goods they could not give account of at the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

The four men are Segun Ayinde (19), Sunday Egaro (22), Ike Ajuchukwu (24) and Rabiu Sani (29). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and unlawful possession.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 19, 2019 at about 3:30pm at Abule Osun bus stop, along Badagry Expressway, Opposite Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

“The defendants conspired with others at large conducted themselves in a manner likely to disturb the peace of the public by sleeping at under the bridge, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos/Badagry Expressway, having specialized on traffic robbery, parading, harassing, snatching hand bags, cell phones and other valuable items from innocent passers-by.

“They unlawfully have in their possession 67 mini packs of Erujeje ginger flavoured liquor and when cautioned, they could not give satisfactory account of they came into their possession,” Tedunjaye said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 168(d) and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with eveidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till November 26, 2019 for mention.
