FRAUD: Clearing agent bags 12 months imprisonment

A 30 year-old, Lagos-based clearing agent, Obinna Okafor, has been convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment without an option of fine, by a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ebutte-Metta.
The convict was docked before Magistrate F.J. Adefioye on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and fraud by the Police and he pleaded guilty to all.
The prosecutor, Corporal Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the convict who resided at 8, Adetayo Street, Fadeyi, Lagos, had on April 19, 2013, sold to the complainant, one, Mr. Ikechukwu Boniface, an unregistered bus valued at N960,000.
The prosecutor alleged that the convict duplicated the key of the vehicle and sold the vehicle to the buyer illegally.
Onaiwu also informed the court that the convict also forged and procured purchase receipt, change of ownership and other relevant documents for the sale of the vehicle.
