Freight Forwarders Institute changes name

Determined to retain relevance in the on-going reforms in the nation’s freight forwarding practice, the Institute of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (IFFN) has announced the change of its corporate name to Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders (NIFF).
The Institute has also appointed Barrister Valentino Buoro, a Lagos-based lawyer and chartered arbitrator as its Executive Secretary.
In a press release e-mailed to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, the NIFF National President, Dr. Zeb Ikokide, said: “The re-branding of the Institute reflects its commitment to the sea change in freight forwarding in the country and the concomitant responsibilities imposed on her as the accredited professional organ of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
“Incorporated in November 1991, the Institute suffered some set back that delayed its official launching until 19th December 1995. From that point up until now the Institute has taken great strides propagating the need for professionalization of freight forwarding practice and the institution of order and transparency in its businesses.
“The establishment of the CRFFN by Act No 16 of 2007 brought with it new responsibilities that have necessitated the re-branding of the Institute to deliver top of the range professional training and services to its members and industry stakeholders. The Institute among other things has been charged by the Council to provide a Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme for all freight forwarders. The programme shall be a precondition for the issuance and renewal of the annual freight forwarders practicing license.
“We also wish to use this medium to announce the setting up of a Members Support Desk which shall provide our members with links to small business advisory and a legal helpline.”
